My Emma loved going to the “doctor.” It was the only place where she got to see other females (the veterinarian and the staff), I think. They were always so easy and kind with her. Just before leaving the house I’d ask, “Want to go to the doctor?” and she’d run to the car. Even on her last day, when she could barely walk, she was ready to go and wobbled to the car with her weak tail wagging. Oh, I miss her.

Of course they do, and I understood this before coming across internet studies and these videos. I am also from a culture that’s not keen on keeping pets around, but from my person experience, animals understand us and know what is going on. They also understand when you are in a bed relationship and get depressed from it.
Yep. Recent scientific research has proven that dogs are smarter than we humans have been giving them credit for. They may not be able to speak English, even if they try. But they are intelligent in many other ways and understand us.

Edit: Sometimes when I drive I bring my dog with me so whenever I pass by the vet he immediately runs to the back of the car and goes under the chair. It’s adorable.

Our vet used to have “orientation” evenings where dogs could come in and run around and associate the place with positivity. If you get a dog, please go to these if your vet offers them.
